How much does an LED retrofit actually cost?
It depends significantly on the size of the job, fixture types, and whether any wiring changes are needed. A single-room residential job may run a few hundred dollars. A commercial warehouse retrofit could be several thousand. What we always do first is run the numbers — we'll show you the projected savings alongside the installation cost so you can make the decision based on ROI, not just the upfront number.
Will LEDs actually work with my existing dimmer switches?
Sometimes yes, sometimes no. Many older dimmers are incompatible with LEDs and will cause flickering or buzzing. We assess your dimmers as part of the job — if they need to be replaced or upgraded to LED-compatible dimmers, we include that in the proposal. It's a common but easily solved issue.
Can I just swap the bulbs myself instead of having an electrician do it?
For simple bulb-in-socket replacements, yes. But most significant retrofit projects involve more than a bulb swap — they may require fixture replacements, wiring modifications for direct-wire LED tubes, new dimmer switches, or high-bay fixture mounting. Those are electrical work that should be done by a licensed electrician to be safe and up to code. We'll tell you honestly what's DIY-friendly and what isn't.
How long does a commercial LED retrofit take?
A standard office or retail space can often be completed in a day or two. A large warehouse or multi-floor building will take longer and we'll schedule around your operations to minimize disruption. We provide a timeline estimate as part of the proposal so there are no scheduling surprises.
Will the quality of light change? I've heard LEDs can look harsh.
The quality of the LED matters a lot. We use quality fixtures with appropriate color temperature for the space — warm white for homes and hospitality, neutral or cool white for offices and workspaces. Done correctly, LEDs produce cleaner, more consistent light than most fluorescents, without the flicker or color distortion. We'll discuss what's right for your space before installation.
Do you handle permit and inspection requirements for commercial jobs?
Yes. We handle all applicable permits and coordinate with inspectors for jobs that require it. We know Houston building codes, and everything we do is to code. If a permit is part of the job, we include that in the scope and handle it — you don't have to worry about it.
